This is Connected North!

A science demonstration, Indigenous artists teaching your students beading, or maybe learning art and music skills–what will Connected North bring to your classroom? Connected North has virtual field trips and expert connections (called "Sessions") across all subjects and age levels, categorized according to your provincial or territorial Program of Studies. Many Sessions are hands-on and feature materials kits shipped to you so that students get the most engaging experience possible.

Introduce a unit via a Connected North Session and watch students reference those ideas again and again. Likewise, try Connected North to bring it all together at the end of a unit. We promote multiple perspectives and modes of learning, so you’ll find providers from across North America with a special focus on Indigenous providers that provide both learning and inspiration for students. You've got access to hundreds of museums, subject experts, artists, and role models to energize learning for both you and your students!

How do I get started?

Step 1: Find a session

It all happens in the Connected North Platform (and mobile apps for iOS and Android). Register with your school-assigned email address, then start searching for sessions. Try searching for “plant science”, “breakdancing”, or “Indigenous art”. You can also browse by Curriculum Linkages, or by Collections, which are curated lists created by the Connected North team: K-2 Art, Grade 4 Math, and so on. Many sessions have video previews of the Content Provider in action.

You can contact your school lead for suggestions based on your lesson plans. You can request multiple sessions at once, so get out those year plans!

Step 2: Request a date

Request a date and an alternate for the session. The further in advance, the better, but we can often work to have a Session ready in as little as 10 days as long as it doesn't require materials to be shipped.

Step 3: Watch for confirmation

You’ll see your requested session status change to Confirmed to let you know everything is ready to go!

Step 4: Prepare for your session

Depending on the type of classroom technology you're using to connect, you may need to open a link, or the session might connect automatically on your Cisco Telepresence/WebEx unit. Learn more about preparing for your first session!

Step 5: Co-facilitate to maximize engagement

During the Session, our Content Providers welcome you to provide input on how the session is going, and anything they may need to repeat or emphasize. Learn more about your role during a Session!

Step 6: Share your Feedback

Following the Session, you'll receive an e-mail to submit a rating and optional feedback review on the Session experience. You can even earn extra Credits once you share a certain number of ratings or reviews!
